How you can help us
The word is getting out and a movement is beginning by people
that have seen a glimpse of what really goes on beyond the well
guarded borders of North Korea. Dynamic partnerships and
networks are forming in taking action for the defense of a
severely oppressed people.
Get involved

Seoul, 110-110
Rep. of Korea
Thanks again for your concern and reaching out to make a
difference in the lives of North Koreans in crisis.
Those activities are:
Providing secret shelters for North Korean
refugees in China and surrounding countries |
Assisting North Korean refugees at extreme
risk of detention, torture or even summary execution if repatriated to North Korea
to make their way to safety along the so-called 'underground
railroad' |
Sending already prepared (in China) food to
hungry orphans and schoolchildren inside North Korea |
Get informed
A major part of helping is getting the right information.
Unfortunately, because of the reclusive nature of North Korea,
there is a lack of official information on the current state of
its citizens. However, reports from those escaping the area
along with other internal and external sources show that the
need for monitored assistance is still necessary.
Non-governmental organizations, such as
Publish the quarterly journal

Rights in North Korea. Other helpful sources include reports
from
Get your
government involved
How is your government involved in improving this situation?
Because the current situation of refugees in China involves
breeches of international standards (OHCHR, ICCPR, CEDAW, CAT
(not signatory), CRC) diplomatic action is necessary. China
chooses to define the North Korean refugees as “illegal
migrants”, a loose title that diverts responsibility to protect
the escapees. The more governments take action by voicing their
disapproval, the greater the stigma on China. Foreign
governments can also help by admitting refugees into their
countries. Greater pressure needs to be built to stop China from
repatriating. An expert in policy making has suggested pressing
government representatives to reconsider trade with China until
the human rights violations against North Koreans have
noticeably been attended to. It is amazing what impact a united
effort can make.
Let people know
What is your sphere of influence? Whether it be your friends,
church, club, or among family members, your influence can make a
significant difference. Get a discussion going or plug into
other active groups and share the story with them. If you
feel moved by what you've seen here and on other websites,
consider giving a short speech or presentation. Below is a free
one created by a dear friend of HHK and fellow activist in two
different formats: original PowerPoint and PDF. Feel free
to use as needed to spread the word of the oppressed in North
Korea.
